The Gil Family

The Story of Our Family-Run Campsite: Tradition and Authenticity

Above all, Le Haras is a family story. It all began in 1981, when Marie and Philippe ANDREA (our aunt and uncle) established the campsite on former farmland in the village of Palau-del-Vidre, embarking on a new adventure.

In 2002, we purchased the estate and took over the family business, continuing their legacy.

We were immediately captivated by the lush greenery surrounding us. We wanted to preserve this peaceful haven and create a welcoming place where we could connect and share special moments with our guests.

The main building is a former late 19th-century hunting lodge, designed by the renowned Catalan architect Gustave Violet. We take great care to honour his architectural legacy in all our modern developments, from the design of our buildings to the choice of colours.

We also discovered the village of Palau-del-Vidre, whose name means “Palace of Glass” in Catalan. We instantly fell in love with the charm of this traditional Catalan village, located just a few kilometres from the hustle and bustle of the coast during the summer months. We quickly became part of the local community and felt right at home.

Its charming narrow streets are home to talented glass artisans, whose craftsmanship we proudly showcase throughout our campsite.

Above all, Le Haras is a small, traditional campsite with 131 pitches, allowing us to offer a warm, personalised welcome and maintain close relationships with our guests.

We are committed to preserving the traditional spirit of camping, with a focus on spacious touring pitches (96 in total) for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

Our 25 rental accommodations are spread throughout the grounds, encouraging guests staying in our accommodation to mingle with fellow campers. A small number of pitches are also reserved for guests who stay at the campsite in their own mobile homes.

Through the activities we organise, we place great importance on creating genuine connections, sharing experiences and fostering a sense of community.

This special bond, and the family atmosphere we treasure so much, is reflected in the words of some of our guests, who describe:

“Our campsite as their second home, while others speak of the big Le Haras family or the unique atmosphere that makes this place so special.”

For us, there could be no greater compliment.

Supported by a wonderful team, we work hard every day to ensure you enjoy a truly memorable holiday. Whether you’re visiting our campsite for the first time or returning for another stay, we look forward to welcoming you to Camping Le Haras!

“To travel is to journey from oneself to oneself through others.” (Tuareg proverb)

See you soon!

Our Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

  • Our Environmentally Friendly Approach: Lush Greenery and Preserved Biodiversity

Our Environmentally Friendly Approach: Lush Greenery and Preserved Biodiversity

Set on former farmland, our 4.5-hectare wooded grounds are home to a wide variety of Mediterranean plants, which have flourished over the years, drawing nutrients and moisture from the rich soil beneath.
These plants, trees and shrubs are naturally adapted to our hot, dry climate and require very little water to thrive.
Thanks to this lush vegetation, an entire ecosystem is protected and preserved. Our grounds provide a natural haven for birds, squirrels and insects. Even a pair of mallard ducks returns to make their home here every spring!
  • Environmental protection

    Environmental protection

Committed to protecting our planet, we do everything we can to minimise our environmental impact and preserve the natural surroundings.
Most of the cleaning products we use are eco-labelled, and our washroom facilities are equipped with individual timed mixer taps to help reduce water consumption.
When it comes to watering our grounds, we prioritise drip irrigation and have replaced traditional planting areas with drought-resistant plants, such as cacti and succulents, which require little or no watering. We also use mulch around hedges and planted areas to help retain moisture in the soil.
In addition, we collect water from our swimming pool filtration system in a 30 m³ storage tank, allowing us to reuse it, particularly for watering our gardens and green spaces.
  • Help us protect this precious environment

Help us protect this precious environment

To help us protect the environment, respect our natural surroundings and appreciate the hard work of our team, we kindly ask all our guests to follow a few simple guidelines:
    – Please leave the toilet and shower facilities clean after use.
    – Avoid wasting toilet paper.
    – Be mindful of your water consumption.
    – When staying in a mobile home, please use water, electricity and gas responsibly.
    – Dog owners are asked to keep their pets on a lead and clean up after them using the waste bags provided near the bins.
    – Please do not drop cigarette ends or any other litter on the ground.
    – Do not pick flowers or damage plants.
    – Please do not feed the animals, as certain foods may make them ill.
    – Waste sorting and recycling: Waste containers are available on site, with separate bins for glass and recyclable materials. Used batteries, light bulbs and ink cartridges can be handed in at reception.
Thank you for helping us preserve the natural beauty of Camping Le Haras!

Our “Zero Pesticides” Commitment: An Eco-Friendly Campsite

To maintain our landscaped grounds, we are committed to using no pesticides or herbicides for weed control, and no synthetic pesticides for insect or fungal treatments.

We have created planted areas featuring low-maintenance, drought-resistant plants, such as cacti and succulents, which require very little watering. More generally, we carefully select plants that are naturally suited to the Mediterranean climate.

We also use organic mulch around hedges and planted areas to help retain moisture in the soil. This practice also allows us to recycle our green waste.

All these measures help to encourage biodiversity and protect the natural ecosystem of our campsite.
